Worship and Prayer

At Saint Catherine Academy worship is essential to the faith life of its community. The school provides many opportunities for celebrating the Liturgy. Mass is celebrated monthly for the entire school community. Students and faculty participate in the Academy’s Eucharistic celebrations. Special liturgies are held for Mercy Day and other occasions.

Retreats

The Religion Department offers retreats each semester to give students and faculty the opportunity to take some time apart to discuss, reflect, pray about the deeper questions of life that concern all members of our institution. The retreat will lend itself to exploring issues in social ethics, which are particularly relevant to our social context and will stimulate further discussion within their classes. Retreats are scheduled for students according to forms, ensuring that students throughout the school participate in these exercises. One-day retreats are normally hosted on school days at Trinidad Farm located 12 1/2 miles on the Northern Highway.

Search Retreats

During the school year 1996 -1997, a spiritual group from the United States introduced the Search Retreat to St. Catherine Academy. The juniors of that year attended the retreat. In 1998, after applying, ten seniors who were juniors and participants of the Search Retreat in the school year 1996 – 1997 were chosen as Search Leaders and gave the Search Retreat to the juniors of St, Catherine Academy. Ever since its inception in the school year of 1996 – 1997, year after year the seniors have offered the Search Retreat to the juniors of St. Catherine Academy.

Search is a retreat offered to teenagers by teenagers. The Search Leaders, as they are called, must possess excellent leadership skills because as leaders (under the supervision of the coordinators who are presently Mrs. Arleen Riverol and Ms. Becky Ramirez) they have to make and undergo extensive and intensive preparation for the retreat. The preparation commences three months prior to the date set for ht e Search Retreat. The Search Retreat is usually held the last two weeks of January.

Search Retreat promotes spiritual development through a relationship with God, a time for reflection, a time to get in touch with your inner self, as well as developing acceptance, tolerance, and most importantly a positive sense of identity.

After participating in the Search Retreat, juniors and seniors should have a more positive outlook on life and a better understanding of spirituality and self. Such positive outcomes help to produce students who are open-minded, fruitful, and able to take on challenges in their communities, their homes, and the world.
